To learn or practice a language, nothing can help you more than a song, a movie or a book. And what can be easier than a book illustrating the actions of its characters with images? This is why we chose to speak about comic books this week.

Here is a list of the most famous francophone comic books, with a brief summary:

• Asterix created by Albert Uderzo, René Goscinny and Jean-Yves Ferri. The story of a little Gallic village which resists the Roman invaders thanks a magic potion. A comic book that is full of humor, a little bit of History, and amazing characters. The movies are now just as famous as the books.
• Tintin created by Hergé: In this comic, you follow the adventures of a famous journalist, along with his dog Milou and the grumpy Captain Haddock all around the world. A movie based off this comic, came out in 2011 titled “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn“. It was directed by Stephen Spielberg and co-produced by Peter Jackson.
• Achille Talon created by Greg: Achille is about a rich man who thinks he knows a lot of things and that he is capable of even more. Unfortunately, his misadventures will prove him that nothing is less true.
• Michel Vaillant created by Jean Graton: the best Formula 1 pilot has an eventful life even outside the track. He appeared for the first time in a Tintin book to test his reception from the public. Later, he became one of the favorite characters of the readers. He will also inspire the big names of car racing such as Alain Prost. A “Michel Vaillant” movie came out in 2003.
• Lucky Luke, created by the artist Morris then helped by the best comic books writers, such as Goscinny, is the story of “the cowboy that shoots quicker than his shadow“. It is a humorous version of the Western genre with its cowboys (Luke), its bandits (the Daltons) and its horses (Jolly Jumper). The character became a pop-culture reference in France where “Lucky Luke” is synonym for speed.
• Le Chat (the Cat) of Philippe Geluck: A series of mini-comic books full of humor, clever word games and common sense. Le Chat criticizes and comments the actions of us as humans.
